During February alone M&A activity in the medical arena was notable. CVS closed their deal with OakStreet Clinics for $10.2 billion. Amazon purchased One Medical, a primary care service for $4 billion, and United Health Group just purchased LHC, a home health group for $5.4 billion.

The message is clear: consolidation continues in the world of medicine.

The M&A activity has also been noticeable with physician practices and employed physicians. A 3-year study (01/01/2019 – 01/01/2022) showed that 108,700 physicians became employees of hospitals or other corporate entities. This represents a 19% increase.
